WHAT HOME AUTOMATION INNOVATIONS CAN WE EXPECT FOR 2021?

With more time spent at home than ever before in 2020, it’s no surprise to see that home tech experts have been beavering away in the background. Giving us something to look forward to in 2021, said experts have been making huge inroads with home automation.

From home security to larger TV screens than ever before, there’s even more of an incentive to stay inside. Here’s a look at what’s to come in 2021.

Drones meet home security

Staying indoors may have made us reassess our needs for home security in 2020, and tech developers are responding to that. Expect to see landmark advancements in surveillance hardware, such as this autonomous flying indoor security camera. Drones may have started out as a novelty item, but now they’re a staple of home security!

Likewise, one tech guru is predicting that Apple will make their first foray into home security in 2021. With 2K cameras coming to the fore, Apple may use their next-level expertise in razor-sharp imagery to produce their own home security systems. Watch this space.

A new chapter for home cinema

In a bid to make cinema-style viewing more accessible to all homeowners, Samsung has developed a MicroLed TV — coming in at an eye-watering 110 inches. Dubbed ‘The Wall’, this non-intrusive system is allegedly simple to install and will take up entire wall spaces. It will use “micrometre-sized LED lights to eliminate the backlight and colour filters used in conventional displays”, which will allow it to produce light and colour from its own pixel structures.

If you want to get the best from it, though, we’d suggest booking in a home technology installer — particularly if you want accompanying unrivalled sound quality.

Enter the ‘Internet of Behaviours’

You’ve heard of the Internet of Things, but have you heard of the Internet of Behaviours? This essentially means our home devices will have more of a data-led focus in 2021, meaning that they can read our behavioural patterns to better serve us.

For example, if they notice that we listen to a particular radio station at a certain time of the morning, or put on a particular channel, they may offer to automate this as a ‘morning’ setting. Similarly, wearable tech like fitness bands may target ads in response to our behaviours, thus making things more convenient.

Hyper-automated kitchens come to the fore

Imagine if you no longer had to worry about re-ordering those fridge staples, or checking to see if a new food contains potential allergens. The hyper-automated kitchen is here to do just that, using the abovementioned behavioural data to learn our shopping habits and reorder for you.

This will save users time, eliminate waste, and could potentially be life-saving — particularly if your fridge can tell you about allergens you may have previously missed.

Say hello to Wi-Fi 6

While we’re just about getting used to the idea of 5G, Wi-Fi 6 is here to shake things up. As our home tech devices become all the more bandwidth-hungry, we need internet speeds that can handle this pressure. This 802.11ax bandwidth will not only ensure we can stream content faster; it will also improve cyber security. Ask us about our aftercare packages to see if you can upgrade your connectivity in 2021.

A new focus on wellness

Just like the Internet of Behaviours will be tracking our wearable devices, we should also expect more developments in wellness for 2021. Integrated technology to enhance your home may include such gadgets as:

2020 has seen us focusing on our own wellbeing and re-evaluating our priorities. Now, technology has had a chance to catch up — meaning that our homes can really look after us.
